The Mysterious Fires on Easter Island
Possible Widespread Destruction of the Maoi Statues Reported
It is one of these ‘let’s hope it is a conspiracy theory’ type events, but some disturbing reports of widespread and possibly deliberate destruction of the iconic and myterious Maoi monoliths on Easter Island are dipping piecemeal into the outside world.
During the Pandemic almost all the Maoi on Easter Island were reported destroyed if some reports are to believed. While it is hard to get verifiable confirmation surrounding the precise details of this event, there is no doubt something very strange happened on the island during the pandemic.
Apparently, it started near or on a cattle ranch and then spread to an area of a few square miles. Most of the Moai on the island were within the burning zone. But other reports of Maoi burning on their own nowhere near the ranch have also been claimed by some to have taken place. Some residents say they know who started the fire, but a mafia-like culture of the island has led to a reluctance to file a complaint against fellow Rapanui. The official silence of the island’s governing bodies are not helping matters either and only fueling - what we hope - turns out to be a conspiracy theory.
In the era of satellite scanning of the entire earth there should be ways to find out the status of the statues. But, who would benefit and what would be the motivation? Moreover how could grass fires destroy or damage stone statures? This story bears watching.
Oh this is terrible news
