Unsupported by the working class, Polish Communists allowed the Third Reich to slaughter 160,000 of their fellow Poles as a strategic means of taking power

The Warsaw Uprising (August Uprising), lasting over sixty days during the summer of 1944, was led by the Polish resistance Home Army to liberate Warsaw from German occupation. Attempting to capitalise on German forces retreating from Poland ahead of the Soviet advance, as the Polish Home Army hit at the German military. However, The Red Army halted combat operations, thus enabling the Germans to destroy the city in retaliation and killing 160, 000 residents of Warsaw. Most were civilians randomly murdered by the Wehrmacht. Communists in Poland were directly responsible for this atrocity occurring as they had planned for this to happen.

The Soviet-backed Polish Committee of National Liberation deliberately sabotaged the uprising by having the Soviets halt their advance so as to have the Germans exterminate their political rivals in Poland. The objective of their treachery would result in a Communist government taking power when the Red Army took the city. Almost sadistically, the Red Army were ordered not to reinforce resistance fighters or provide support. Declassified documents proved that Stalin had tactically halted his forces from advancing on Warsaw, having worked out this objective with the Polish communists. The Polish Committee of National Liberation aspects of wartime governance were then determined by Soviet military surveillance.

The Polish Committee of National Liberation declared the pre-war Polish state "fascist", and following the Warsaw Uprising the new regime was completely dependent on the Soviet secret police (the NKVD) authority over all of Poland and proclaimed the creation of a Polish Army under Soviet leadership. Many of those arrested and executed had been wartime heroes who had fought the Third Reich only to then find themselves in an NKVD ‘killing room’ for their crime of being Polish patriots ("fascist").

Following the war, the new Communist government of Poland rewrote the history of the Warsaw Uprising declaring it to have been a Marxist revolt when most of the fighters were ardent anti-Marxists.
