When I was growing up I carried a certain mind control program within me—and one which continued well into my adult years—that being the iconic image of Elvis Presley shaking US President Richard Nixon’s hand in the White House. An image that was used as something of a pre-Internet meme to discredit Elvis Presley, along with that of mainstream Americana of the period. I am ashamed to admit I fell for it hook, line, and sinker. That Elvis was some kind of ignorant hillbilly incapable of thinking outside the box. A “square”, a “sell-out” a “dumb redneck” and so on.
This iconic photo inside the Oval Office was taken on December 21, 1970. The Smithsonian Magazine recently referred to it as being akin to. “…a computer-generated joke, or maybe a snapshot from some parallel universe…”
Well, they would say this.
Fast forward over half and century later and we live in a world where we are now acutely aware that the music icons of the Hippie era—notably The Mammas and Papas, The Doors, and Crosby Stills and Nash—were ostensibly agents working on behalf of the CIA (as well as US Military Intelligence) to discredit the previous CND anti-war movement and instead replace it with upper-middle-class Flower People. The objective was to take away intelligent discourse concerning funding weapons manufacturers—to keep the Military Industrial Complex’s profits flowing—and discredit it with images of simpletons dressed as clowns placing daisies into the barrels of National Guards rifles.
Wayne Kramer and the rest of the Magnificent MC5. The Authentic Voice of America Rebellion During the 1960s. However it was Tiny Tim who Sold the Most Records and this was Not an Accident.
Genuine music of working-class revolt/outrage such as the MC5, who represented the anger of the American blue-collar communities—unable to afford the fake doctor’s letters to avoid the Vietnam War draft—was replaced with the neurology-dissolving mush of Tiny Tim, Edison Lighthouse, and Herman’s Hermits. Acts who all sold their mindless twaddle in astronomical numbers of units during the 1960s.
At the time of the Oval Office photo, Elvis knew that rock and roll in the USA was no longer a product of organic creative forces from the type of people who once walked into Carl Perkin’s side street Sun Records studio. Rather than selling out, Elvis was finding a possible ally. He was pictured with a man who was about to be destroyed for asking the head of the CIA who killed JFK. Nixon already knew it was the CIA, but he wanted something on audio tape. So within a few weeks, a US Naval Intelligence Officer (similar to the ones who had created Jim Morrison and The Doors) named Bob Woodward was instantly transformed into a journalist and ‘broke’ the Watergate Scandal.
Both Elvis Presley and Richard Nixon also shared the same legacy of having their reputations trashed—even after their deaths—and both being accordingly dehumanized by the same intelligence service operatives within mainstream media, and mindlessly repeated by people who actually believe the Woodstock festival of STDs, mud, wealthy brat draft dodgers—whose parents could afford to bribe doctors—and all that shit music was somehow a protest against ‘the Mannnnn’.
Ironically, Elvis and Nixon in this photo were the ones doing that.
I graduated from high school in 1969. I remember the Nixon and Elvis photo. Elvis was really an icon of people a few years older than me. I went to the Newport Folk Festival in Rhode Island which took place a couple weeks before Woodstock. A lovely young woman invited me to go to to upstate NY with her and go to Woodstock. I declined. I needed to go home and back to work because I was starting college in September. Well, there were certainly bands I would have loved to see at Mudstock, but I had made the right decision. At Newport I saw many bands and folk artists and got to meet and talk with them. I have followed many of their music all my life. But, I was already seeing the manufactured side of music and the CIA/deep state players involved. "Hey Hey We're The Monkeys..."
I also see how the country music scene was the same problem in spades. My big disappointment is as they aged, most of these folk music stars switched from being the rebels to being THE VOICE of the Government Narrative. NO tolerance for the unvaxed, We should be rounded up and put in camps, we should not be able to go out or go to stores, Support WAR in Ukraine or you are a Russian stooge, Support Hamas, on and on. Support war??? The same people who created the antiwar songs of the Vietnam era?
Watergate never really added up for me. There have been worse things done by presidents.
