Although these trashy occult paperbacks were a huge influence on my formative years, and I regret none of it, looking back now it's clear to see that the late '60s/early 70s Occult Revival was eventually reframed as a social engineering, nonlinear warfare tactic by the likes of Tavistock and the Fabians. What started as a flood of readily available genuine esoteric knowledge—in the wake of witchcraft laws being abolished—soon became part of the Kinsean psyop. Even so, there was still plenty of fascinating and genuine occult knowledge contained within these books too. This is how they worked. Good occult info wrapped around how to score some hippie chicks. It is also worth pointing out that this sexualised element of the Occult Revival was one segment of a huge subject ranging from occult history, to horror movies, magazines, weird fiction, discordia, role playing games and rock music. All of which I fed eagerly into my developing conscousness and which I can state has served me very well in life.
The smut and trash aspects being eventually pushed to the fore—similar to what was done with Popular Music—became all about destroying traditional social values. I was already reading this stuff at ages 9-12-ish, and I considered it almost akin to Comics or Sci-fi/Horror within my emerging consciousness. However, among suburban adult Normies, these paperbacks were a possible opportunistic path toward group sex and BDSM gatherings. These trashy occult paperbacks were harmless and interesting fun—if one was intelligent/conscious—but the Normies were reading these books and next thing you have a flood of serial killers and suburban sex cults exploding in the 1970s. Swingers, sex freaks, and the likes of Fred West and Jimmy Savile. The same semisentient types who banged pots during Covid, back then were getting access to the occult via being drawn in by the element of smut. All by design.
These books were everywhere when I was a kid and were primarily written by ghost authors. The intelligence services I now believe had a huge role in this. Especially here in Ireland as this country’s Pagan ‘gravitas’ brought some dubious individuals out of the British upper classes and into the Irish occult scene and it is still central to a certain Woke/Progressive faction within the Irish occult today.
Now it has been reframed again as Transgender, Diversity, and Abortion Cults all heavily connected to Third Wave Feminism. Calling it "Celtic Spirituality" when it is just really Cultural Marxism. One such individual at the forefront of Irish NeoPaganism even has a Stasi-like list of who and who is not an approved Pagan figure in Ireland based almost exclusively upon their association with progressive politics.
Superb as always Thomas! Would the cult of scientism also be part of these new categories and ongoing bullshit?
